The All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) held an awards ceremony in Beijing on November 28 to honor the outstanding groups and individuals for safeguarding the rights and interests of women and children. The 996 groups and 995 individuals awarded this year were mainly chosen from public security, procuratorial organs and courts, circles of laws, education and civil affairs as well as people's organizations.

The 10 major cases of the protection of women and children's rights, which mark the endeavors in fighting against molestation, sexual harassment, rape and domestic violence, protecting women's reproductive rights and rural land ownership and eliminating employment discrimination against women in China, were also released at the ceremony.

Shen Yueyue, Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) and President of the ACWF, issued certificates to the representatives of advanced groups and the individuals who have contributed to the protection of women and children's rights. Huang Xiaowei, Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of the ACWF and Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, awarded certificates to the institutions involved in 10 major cases of defending women and children's rights.

At the conference, the major cases were staged through scene plays to show how the judicial authority and social organizations protect the rights and interests of women and children.

Additionally, an interview with the legal experts was held during the event, analyzing the typical significance of the selected cases so as to offer guidance for the cases of the same kinds. The 10 major cases released at the ceremony were selected by more than 20 experts from the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, universities and institutions and law offices.

Shen said that awarding the advanced groups and individuals and releasing the major 10 cases were the important practice of implementing the spirit of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions on protecting the rights and interests of women and children according to law. Women's federations should further improve the political awareness and work mechanisms and fully implement the work of protecting the rights and interests of women and children, so that all the women and children feel happy and safe in our society.

After the ceremony, Tan Lin, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, met with representatives of the advanced groups and individuals.
