Jinan, E China, Rolls out Measures to Benefit Women and Children

The government of Jinan City, East China's Shandong Province, rolled out 11 measures to help women and children have better lives, the Jinan Women's Federation announced recently.

According to the plan, a total of 130 primary and secondary schools as well as kindergartens will be constructed or expanded in the city.

Social forces are encouraged to increase investment to build 40 childcare centers for infants and children under 3.

Through the Sunshine Sisters Project, 18,000 women will be trained and 200,000 women will gain employment by providing standardized and professional housekeeping services for families.

Free screening of "two cancers" (cervical cancer and breast cancer) will be provided to 600,000 rural women and urban low-income women aged 35-64 every three years, and 200,000 women will receive free screenings in 2020.

Moreover, 500 impoverished women suffering from cervical cancer and/or breast cancers will be assisted with financial support.  

The Spring Bud Project, a project helping girls receive better education, will benefit 1,000 girls in difficulties in 2020.

The measures also include enhanced efforts to protect women and children's rights and provide non-profit legal services for them, build 60 public washrooms, ensuring the ratio of female toilet seats to male toilet seats reach no less than 1.2:1.

In addition, 12 libraries to enrich the cultural life of women and children, and 100 childcare centers that help working parents tutor their unattended children during winter and summer vacations will be built.

About 150 community-based science centers in the city will also offer science and technology popularization courses and activities for women and children this year.
