Chengdu Launches International Women Art Festival

Led by the Chengdu Women's Federation and the Wuhou District People's Government, the opening ceremony of the First International Women Art Festival was held on November 16 at an art expo park in Chengdu, capital city of Southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The festival intends to become a platform for facilitating the sharing and cooperation in women's innovation and entrepreneurship, inspiring and cultivating more women artists, allowing people around the world to enjoy the charm of Chengdu via diverse art forms, and promoting Chengdu's development into a world-famous cultural and creative city.

The festival encompassed a series of events such as exhibitions, forums, fashion shows, markets, social interactions and sports.

A cultural and creative design competition launched by the festival in August 2019 organized more than 20 introductory and promotional sessions in colleges and social institutions. A total of more than 700 domestic and foreign works were received and 46 works won awards in the final evaluation.

At the ceremony, several brands established by native Chengdu women signed strategic cooperation contracts with cultural and creative institutions in multiple fields such as cultural creativity, cosmetics, cultural technology, film and media.

A fair displaying more than 1,000 products from over 30 companies kicked off at the opening ceremony. The exhibits included original handicrafts, folk arts and cultural creations, botanical fragrances and dietary derivatives which meet diversified needs of the consumers.

An exhibition featuring women's original art works from home and abroad was also held during the festival.

A forum themed "women's power in the aesthetics of life in the construction of park city" was held during the festival.

Meng Man, part-time Vice-President of the All-China Women's Federation and professor at Minzu University of China, delivered a speech on the essence of Chengdu City and Chengdu women and their bright future at the forum that began with recitation of some ancient Chinese poems.

Xia Hua, President of Eve Group, a famed Beijing-based clothing company and founder of Eve China Handicraft Workshop, explained how to use a miniature corporate model to convert China's most beautiful cultural values into commercial value with global influence.

In a round-table discussion, guests conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on issues such as the life aesthetics in the construction of a park city, women's charm and responsibilities, the experience sharing and international exchanges of Chengdu's development of cultural and creative industries, and women's contribution to Chengdu's development into a world-famous cultural city.

"The speakers exuded a strong power which was inspiring and moving, and I hope that entrepreneurs or leaders from all walks of life can inject more impetus into Chengdu's development," said one participant of the event.

The women's federations in Chengdu also strive to utilize the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship of local women to make Chengdu shine brighter on the world stage.

"As one of the sponsors of the festival, the Women's Federation of Wuhou District will give full play to the industries in a zone featuring women's beauty business in a bid to promote local economic development," said Huang Guo, president of the Women's Federation of Wuhou District in Chengdu. "The festival is a good opportunity to promote women's enterprises and cultural and creative products to more domestic areas as well as to the world."
