CWU Party Committee Holds Seminar on Evaluation Work

China Women's University (CWU) held a symposium on the evaluation work of undergraduate education on April 5.

Deputy team leaders of different project groups and members of the Quality Supervision Department (QSD) participated in the event, which was presided over by Li Mingshun, chairperson of CWU Council.

Chen Lan, deputy director of the QSD and the Teaching Affairs Office, introduced the specific work and matters to which should be paid special attention.

All those in attendance shared their opinions on the evaluation work and highlighted the importance of teaching assessment in promoting the development of the university. They agreed that CWU's constitution marks a new stage in constructing a modern university ruled by law.

It is the basic institutional guarantee for a top-ranked women's university with distinct characteristics. It conveys CWU's mission, leads CWU's reform and development, and has great realistic significance in pushing forward CWU's sustainable and scientific development, the participants said.

Focused on the school-running orientation, the school leaders should take the construction of a first-class women's university with distinctive characteristics as its development target, and highlight the university's unique teaching ideas, advanced gender culture and special historical mission, Chen said.

Based on the Marxist view of women, the Chinese basic policy of gender equality and the Program for the Development of Chinese Women, the university should lay a solid foundation for women's studies and advanced gender culture. In addition, the university should combine its school traditions and practices with the demands of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), fully demonstrate its school-running orientation and contribute to women and children's development and family construction, Chen added.

When it comes to talent cultivation, Chen asked relevant departments to make clear the relationship between the "Four-Self" spirits (Self-esteem, Self-confidence, Self-support and Self-improvement), public welfare awareness and the connotation of intellectuality and elegance, moreover, further clarify the interactive relationship between the goal of talent cultivation and the school-running orientation.

Touching on the construction of disciplines and majors, Chen said the teaching staff should set a proper curriculum which is consistent with the university's academic direction. Based on the existing undergraduate subjects, the university should develop distinctive professions catering for the development of women and society. It is also important to promote discipline merging and interdisciplinary construction.

The seminar clarified the group leaders' thoughts, formed the objectives and laid a solid foundation for evaluation work ahead, organizers said.
Focusing on the university's preparation and implementation details, Chen introduced the form of examination, the methods used to complete the summary report and self-assessment report on undergraduate education, and methods to concisely sum up the university's characteristics.

The priorities will be carried out by formulating and implementing the remediation programs, further refining the self-assessment system and editing preconditioning and supporting materials, Chen added.

At the end of the meeting, participants introduced the status of their evaluation work and auditing reports, and pointed out difficulties in the implementation process. They also shared their opinions on talent cultivation planning, teaching resources optimization and the construction of a quality assurance system.

The Standing Committee of CWU Council held a meeting on the spirit of the "Two Sessions" before the symposium. Leaders introduced the content of higher education reforms which were involved in the "Two Sessions" and the government work reports. The materials are guidelines on evaluation work for the university under the current circumstances, urging authorities to act accordingly.

Attendees also included CWU President Liu Liqun, vice team leader of the project construction group and directors from the Evaluation Work Office, Leading Group Office of 13th Five-Year Plan and the General Office.
