The W20 (Women 20, an outreach group of G20) and the World Assembly for Women (WAW!) were held in Tokyo from March 22 to 24, 2019.

Nearly 2,000 representatives from United Nations organizations and the political, commercial and academic sectors of almost 30 countries attended the event.

Deng Li, Member of the Standing Committee and Member of the Social Development Committee of the 13th National People's Congress, and also Member of the Party Leadership Group of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and Curator of the China National Museum of Women and Children, headed a women's delegation to the event. Deng delivered a speech during the W20 Special Session with the theme of Women as Patients and Caregivers: Improving Gender Equity and Labor Inclusion by Addressing Healthcare Disparities.

In her speech, Deng emphasized the four-point proposal of promoting women's all-round development in President Xi Jinping's speech at the Global Leaders' Meeting on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment in 2015. Deng introduced the major measures adopted by the Chinese Government on promoting women's all-round development and gender equality, especially in ensuring women's health, and the significant results achieved by the Chinese Government. She also introduced the focus points of the ACWF, and called on representatives from other countries to learn from each other and strive to establish a better world for all peoples and build a community with a shared future for mankind.

The representatives discussed a society in which women shine, and this year's theme "WAW! For Diversity," together with issues related to health, peace, families, employment and entrepreneurship and gender equality in the digital era. The W20 Japan 2019 Communiqué was endorsed at the meeting.

Deng met Satsuki Katayama, Japanese Cabinet Minister of State for Regional Revitalization and Women's Empowerment, during the meeting. She also met representatives of the women's institutions of the Japanese Government and women's organizations for in-depth discussions on strengthening exchanges between the women of China and Japan.
