A female entrepreneur from Beijing has successfully started several businesses and devoted herself to carrying out public welfare causes and leading more entrepreneurs to help others shake off poverty.
An Zhongyan, president of the Beijing Association of Women Entrepreneurs and Beijing Fengshun Industrial Trading Group, has always been passionate and keen to help disadvantaged groups.
An started her business when she was 24. She set up a service shop with her friends to provide daily necessities and office supplies for people.
In 1993, she founded a driving school named "Fengshun" with several women, aiming to create a good driving atmosphere for students and run the school smoothly.
Nowadays, the group has developed into a large chain, with several basic enterprises, billions of assets, thousands of employees and lots of chain stores at home and abroad.
In addition to being a successful businesswoman, An is also a philanthropist. She endowed various public welfare projects to help dropouts and impoverished people who have suffered from natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods and tsunamis.
"I just cannot stand others suffering, so I want to do my bit to help others out," An said when asked why she chose to engage herself in the provision of public welfare services.
An insisted on conducting investigations in communities and has put forward some 30 suggestions over the past years in a number of fields including caring for children and the elderly without families; ensuring traffic safety; improving the community environment; paying attention to rural medical services and urban endowment insurance.
As a deputy to the 12th National Women's Congress, An said she had learned a great deal from the important remarks made by President Xi Jinping when he attended a meeting on the development of private enterprises. She encouraged Chinese female entrepreneurs to make achievements in the new era.
"Female entrepreneurs account for 30 percent of all entrepreneurs across the country, and they play an important role in promoting China’s economic and social development," said An.
"Meanwhile, many of them are willing to devote themselves to public welfare services, helping alleviate poverty and care for disadvantaged groups so as to promote social stability and harmony," An said happily.
"President Xi's remarks concerning the important role of private enterprises heightened our confidence, we will carry on with our innovative efforts, make high achievements in poverty alleviation, and strive to showcase Chinese women's creativity to the world," concluded An.
