The 11th National Women's Congress
The 11th National Women's Congress of China is convened in Beijing.

 

The 11th National Women's Congress of China was convened in Beijing on October 28, 2013. More than 1,600 women deputies from all ethnicities and social sectors around China gathered to discuss development plans.

Xi Jinping, Chinese President and General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, and other Party and State leaders attended the opening ceremony. Shen Yueyue, ACWF President, presided over the opening ceremony, and Song Xiuyan, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, presented a work report themed "Raise the Great Banner of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, Unite and Inspire Women from All Walks of Life Nationwide to Contribute to the Realization of the Chinese Dream." The congress set out the goals for women's development in the next five years, adopted the Resolution on the Amendment to the Constitution of the All-China Women's Federation, and elected the new leadership of the ACWF. Shen Yueyue was elected President, and Song Xiuyan was elected First Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF.

General Secretary Xi Jinping delivered an important speech while meeting with the newly-elected leadership of the ACWF in Zhongnanhai, Beijing, on October 31. Xi emphasized the importance of adhering to the basic State policy of gender equality and the great role of Chinese women.
