ACWF Highlights Significance, Promotion of 'Civilized Women's Posts'

The awards ceremony hosted by ACWF intends to commend groups and individuals for making remarkable achievements in their industries. [Women of China]

To mark the 20th anniversary of the campaign Establishing "Civilized Women's Posts", the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) hosted an awards ceremony, to commend groups and individuals for making remarkable achievements in their industries. The event was held in Beijing on April 22, 2017. The ACWF named 1,980 national "civilized women's posts," 998 "women making achievements" pacesetters, and 500 "women making achievements" groups. The ACWF held a seminar the same day to review the campaign's outcomes during the past 20 years. Participants also discussed new ideas and innovative methods to promote the campaign.

In 1997, ACWF and 12 ministries and government departments established "Civilized Women's Posts" in 10 targeted industries including trade, finance, public transportation, health and education.

Organizers hoped the campaign would inspire more women to improve their ethical standards and professional skills, and that the campaign would help them make bigger contributions to the growth of their industries.

During the past 20 years, 500,000 "civilized women's posts" above the county level, and 17,000 national-level "civilized women's posts" have been established. The campaign in recent years has been implemented in Party and government offices, enterprises, research institutes, modern economic and social organizations and rural communities.

Shen Yueyue, Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and President of the ACWF, gave a speech during the awards ceremony.

On behalf of ACWF, Shen congratulated the recipients. Shen said the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), with Chinese President Xi Jinping as the core, has attached great importance to women's progress. She asked cadres of women's federations at all levels, to improve the "four consciousnesses" (referring to the ideology, the whole, the core and the line), and she asked them to lead women in marching ahead firmly on the socialist road — with Chinese characteristics — of women's development.

Shen also urged women's federations to highlight publicity of the upcoming 19th National Congress of the CPC, by promoting the "Women Loving the Party, Starting a New Journey" and "Women Making New Contributions to the 13th Five-year Plan" campaigns.

Shen urged women's federations to put more effort into helping women escape poverty, promoting family ethics and protecting women's legal rights. She said the federations should encourage women to contribute to the construction of a moderately prosperous society, in all aspects.

Shen asked the federations to carry on their reforms, and she said she hoped they would organize, educate, connect and serve women in innovative ways.

During the seminar, as representatives of the national-level "civilized women's posts", staff from the "Wu Eryu" Crew of Shanghai Airlines and the Xi'an Sifujie Branch of Bank of China gave speeches about how they have made achievements at work.

Wu Eryu, a national model worker, talked about how she and the crew offered high-quality services that exceed passengers' expectations during the past 20 years, based on the service methods named after her.

Officials from the Ministry of Transport, the National Health and Family Planning Commission, the State administration of Taxation, and officials from six provincial or municipal women's federations shared their experiences of establishing "civilized women's posts".
