Senior officials of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) attended the high-level Global Leaders' Meeting on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment held on Sunday at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

The officials included Shen Yueyue, vice-chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) and president of the ACWF; Song Xiuyan, vice-president and first member of the Secretariat of the ACWF; and Meng Xiaosi, vice-president and member of the Secretariat of the ACWF.

The landmark event was jointly held by China and UN Women, the UN's organization focusing on gender equality and women's empowerment, and chaired by Chinese President Xi Jinping. It took place in conjunction with the UN Sustainable Development Summit 2015 and was part of the program to mark the 20th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women held in Beijing in 1995.

Around 100 representatives, including 80 heads of states and governments, attended the meeting, where they made concrete commitments to overcome gender equality gaps.

At the meeting, Chinese President Xi made a four-point proposal on women's rights worldwide that included: striving for women's development in tandem with social and economic progress; protecting women's rights and interests; jointly building harmonious and inclusive societies; and fostering a global environment conducive to women's development.

Xi also announced a U.S. $10 million donation to UN Women to help with the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (the resolution adopted in the 1995 Beijing conference) and the realization of related goals in the Post-2015 Development Agenda.
