Gansu Women's Federation, in northwest China, sent a special team of representatives to north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from March 25-27, 2015, as part of the preparation for the 1st Silk Road International Cultural Expo. The expo will be held in September 2016 in Dunhuang, northwest China's Gansu Province.

The organizing committee of the expo assigned Gansu Women's Federation to receive and serve the expo's participating units from Inner Mongolia.

Li Zhenya, vice-chairman of the Gansu Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led relevant personnel from the federation and the provincial cultural expo bureau to visit Inner Mongolia where they conducted interviews.

At a meeting held in Hohhot, Li explained the expo as to its background, purpose, theme, content, organization and overall preparations under the context of the Belt and Road initiative.

Li commented that the Expo is a national-level strategic platform hosted by the province, as well as an international gathering for cultural exchange and mutual learning among civilizations.

On behalf of the provincial government, Li invited the government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to participate in the expo.

He hoped that the outstanding ethnic culture of Inner Mongolia would shine at the expo and the region would work together with other provinces along the Silk Road to jointly make the event memorable and fruitful.

Chen Yu, vice-chairman of the Inner Mongolia Regional Committee of the CPPCC, attended the meeting.

Chen said the expo was a rare opportunity that Gansu provides for in-depth integrated development to provinces along the Silk Road.

Inner Mongolia and Gansu are deeply connected in history and culture. "Our regional Party committee and government attach great importance to participating in the fair, and we will vigorously support and actively organize our delegation to make positive contributions to the success of the first Expo and the promotion of the common development of the provinces along the Silk Road," Chen said.

Wang Lingying, vice-president of the Gansu Women's Federation, also attended the meeting.

The heads of Inner Mongolia's department of culture, tourism bureau, press and broadcasting bureau, commerce department, finance department, economic and information committee and other relevant personnel attended the event.

Li and his delegations also visited the Inner Mongolia Museum, Zhaojun Museum, and Yili Dairy Company.

Gansu Women's Federation made much of the preparation for the visit, and will continue its service to the expo, said a spokesperson.
