CWU Holds 7th Training Session on Women's Oral History

China Women and Gender Library (CWGL) in China Women's University (CWU) held the 7th training session among women's oral history researchers from November 4-5.

Shao Juan, sub-librarian of the CWGL, gave a speech at the conference. She said that the interview and record of women's oral history not only saved precious historical materials, but also highlighted women's great roles in social change, which is of great significance to promoting the process of gender mainstreaming and building the path of women's liberation and development with Chinese characteristics.

CWU teachers Liu Meng, Li Hongtao, Han Henan, Zhang Jing and Li Huibo were invited to give lectures at the event. Of which, Professor Liu Meng stressed methods and skills when talking with interviewees; Professor Li Hongtao shared her opinions on women's life history from a gender perspective; Professor Han Henan introduced women's history in the 20th century and teacher Li Huibo introduced how to collect and prepare oral historic materials.

Teachers Li Hongtao and Zhang Jing also introduced the dos and don'ts, psychological guidance and assistance when interviewing special groups of women, such as women who suffer violence, or, those who have lost their only child.

After the two-day training session, the trainees will go to collect the oral historic materials nationwide.

Some 80 teachers, doctoral and postgraduate students and relevant staff from 11 provinces and municipalities attended the event.
