A tourist learns how to make a batik cloth – in which beeswax is applied before dying to create different patterns – in the village of Gaodang, Zhenning Bouyei and Miao Autonomous County in southwest China's Guizhou Province. Gaodang Village, a rural Bouyei settlement with a history of over 600 years, was officially confirmed as a Chinese Folk Culture Art Village by the Ministry of Culture in 2009. In 2015, it was added to the Chinese Traditional Village List. Along with batik and embroidery, the unique customs and heritage-style crafts-making techniques of the local Bouyei people draw many tourists to the scenic site. [Guizhou Ethnic News/Tao Hui]
