Contemporary ink works are decorating at more important events, including both high-level governmental meetings and trade fairs, to show the vibrancy of China's ink tradition today.

More than 60 ink works by well established artists who have expanded the boundary of ink art are now on show at The Future of Ink Art, an exhibition at the National Art Museum of China through Jan. 2, 2019.

Wu Yi, who is featured at the exhibition, said those contemporary works maintain the height which classic ink paintings achieved and meanwhile, reflects the mentality of modern society and individual expressions.

Liu Guosong another artist whose works are on display, said the exhibition helps to re-establish a home-grown appraisal criteria of contemporary ink art which had been for many years put under the critique of Western perspectives, and he looks to more quality ink art exhibitions like this one.

Noted ink painter Xu Lei, whose painting is exhibited, said the future of ink art is promising only when artists have an international vision and thorough understanding of their cultural DNA.
