CGCC Ladies' Committee Delegates Visit CWU

 

A delegation from the Ladies' Committee of Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC) visited China Women's University (CWU) on May 25, accompanied by Zhao Hongju, deputy director-general of the International Liaison Department of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and officials from the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

CWU President Liu Liqun received the delegates and presided over a seminar. Attendees also included directors from the Student Affairs Office, Enrollment and Employment Office, and deans from the School of Management, the School of Culture and Communication and the faculty of Women's Studies.

Liu warmly welcomed the delegation and hoped to communicate and exchange opinions with female talents from different sections of society in Hong Kong. She introduced CWU's development history, academic characteristics, undergraduate curriculum, objective of talent cultivation and its basic situation of international exchange. 

Liu also introduced CWU's advantages in political support, academic research, international cooperation, social resources and service level, and laid out CWU's efforts and accomplishments in developing women's causes, protecting women and children's rights and interests, as well as promoting gender equality.

Liu said that CWU and CGCC have a time-honored history of friendly exchanges. The bilateral relations have developed rapidly since Hong Kong returned to China on July 1, 1997. She sincerely thanked Hong Kong women's strong support and great efforts in the university's construction and development road.

Zhou Lili, president of the CGCC Ladies' Committee, thanked the university for their warm reception and shared Hong Kong's experiences in promoting gender equality and women's progress. She commented that she was impressed by CWU's achievements in training female talents, increasing employment opportunities for female students, improving women's status, as well as promoting gender equality and women's development. 

CGCC Ladies Committee is expecting to further cooperate with CWU on academic exchange, especially on the training of female elites in the field of communications, Zhou said.

Moreover, Zhou exchanged opinions with CWU leaders on CWU's talent cultivation strategy, women's career development, women's status in households and women's role in public communication.

CGCC is a non-profit organization of local Chinese firms and businessmen. Founded in 1958, the Ladies' Committee is one of the departments in Hong Kong which aims to call on women in the business community to participate in all sorts of activities, care for disadvantaged groups and give back to the community.
