CWU President Meets Vietnamese Women's Delegation

Liu Liqun, president of China Women's University (CWU), warmly welcomed a women's delegation from Vietnam on December 21 and presided over a seminar on international cooperation.

At the invitation of the All-China Women's Federation (CWU), the delegation was headed by Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Deputy to Vietnam National Assembly, President of Vietnam Women's Union.

Directors from the university's International Cooperation Department and the School of Continuing Education also participated in the event.

On behalf of the university, Liu briefed the guests on the development history, management characteristics, as well as the achievements and positive social repercussions of CWU in talent cultivation, discipline construction, international exchange and social services.

Liu also introduced the university's academic advantages and management characteristics to the foreign delegation. CWU not only undertakes the task of undergraduate education, but also is responsible for a large number of training programs for women cadres both at home and abroad. In addition, the development of the university was in line with the international women's development and movements.

The university was relocated, expanded and renamed as China Women's University in 1995 when the Fourth World Conference on Women took place in Beijing. To meet President Xi Jinping's demands of training more than 30,000 women from developing countries in China in five years, which president Xi committed at the Global Women's Summit in 2015, the university has undertaken several foreign aid projects to improve women cadres' management capacity in developing countries. The university became one of the 26 first-batch of talent training bases for Belt and Road Initiative in 2017, Liu added.

Liu hoped that the two sides could establish better cooperation in women's causes and educational industry, as well as, promote women's development in both countries.

Nguyen Thi Thu Ha sincerely thanked the warmth of CWU leaders, spoke highly of the university's achievements in promoting gender equality and women's education. She said that she was deeply impressed by CWU's efforts in teaching, scientific research, women's training and vocational education.

Nguyen Thi Thu Ha also introduced the basic situation of Vietnam Women's College which was affiliated with the Vietnam Women's Union. She hoped the Vietnam Women's College could establish a long-term and stable partnership of cooperation with CWU and learn its successful experience.

She also hoped that CWU will allow more Vietnamese women to participate in its Belt and Road talent cultivation project. The Vietnam is willing to work together with China to promote gender equality, improve women's leadership capacity and develop more female talents in developing countries.

Afterward, the two sides had a broad and in-depth exchange of views on women cadres' training, academic research, professional settings, talent cultivation objectives, female students' employment and entrepreneurship education, as well as the theoretical and practical training for women officials.

After the seminar, Liu Liqun accompanied the Vietnamese women's delegation to visit CWU's Women and Gender Library.
