Wang Xiaofen, general manager of Cuiyuan, a Chinese restaurant in Prague, the Czech Republic, and Wang Chunxiong, her husband, moved to Prague from East China's Zhejiang Province in 1998. A couple started from scratch and worked hard to run a Chinese restaurant. To share delicious Chinese food in another country, they made a lot of effort to innovate the dishes, and, on the basis of maintaining the original characteristics of Chinese food, they altered some dishes to suit Western tastes. Their restaurant has become one of the most popular Chinese restaurants in Prague.
Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in the Czech Republic for a three-day State visit on March 28, 2016. It was the first State visit in that country by a Chinese president, since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1949. President Xi was warmly welcomed by people from all walks of life in the Czech Republic. During the visit, the two countries agreed to elevate their relations to a strategic partnership, and to jointly advance the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.
During his visit, President Xi met with representatives of overseas Chinese, Chinese-funded organizations and students in the Czech Republic. As one of the representatives, Wang Chunxiong was honored to participate in the reception, and to pose for a group photo with President Xi.
China and the Czech Republic enjoy a traditional friendship, Xi said during the visit, as he lauded the frequent high-level interactions, ever-deepening strategic mutual trust, ever-expanding economic and trade cooperation, and the colorful people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two sides in recent years.
The number of Chinese tourists visiting the Czech Republic has increased a lot in recent years. To serve and provide convenience to tourists from their homeland, the Wang family set up Phoenix Travel Service, which is managed by the couple's son, Wang Leilei. Efforts have been made by the family to promote the development of tourism between the two countries.
As the Wang family has contributed to the development of the traditional friendship between China and the Czech Republic, their stories have often been publicized and reported by Czech and Chinese media. The family has become well-known in the Czech Republic. During some exchanges between the two countries, the family has been received by the Czech Republic's political leaders. Once Wang Leilei presented Chinese traditional homemade moon cakes to Czech President Milos Zeman, to celebrate the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival (the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar).
"The great development and prosperity of the motherland cause us, overseas Chinese, feel very proud," says Wang Xiaofen, "October 1, 2019, is the day to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of our motherland. By then, our family must go back to visit Beijing, to visit Tian'anmen Square. May the motherland be better tomorrow!"
