Some 70 officials from Changchun Women's Federation, northeast China's Jilin Province, attended the opening ceremony of the Women and Children's Legal Services Counter on July 10.

The event took place at the local Comprehensive Public Legal Services Center. The establishment is designed to further enhance the province's judicial administrative system and women's federations at all levels in promoting legal services for women and children.

Gao Shawei, director-general of the Legal Department of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), attended the opening ceremony.

Other officials who attended the event include Zhang Yi, director of the Justice Department of Jilin Province; Li Xiaoying, president of Jilin Women's Federation; and Zhou Jifeng, deputy secretary general of Changchun Municipal Government.

Zhang and Li delivered speeches at the event. They both agreed that protecting the rights of women and children is closely linked to family happiness, social stability, and the progress of a civilized society.

Li Yan, deputy inspector of the Judicial Department, presided over the event.

Gao praised the achievements Jilin Women's Federation has made. She said: "It has provided high-quality and efficient legal services and guaranteed the healthy development of women and children within the province."

Zhang Yi pointed out that strengthening the public legal services for women and children is an important measure to implement the spirit of the 4th Plenary Session of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the CPC and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

"Women's federations should protect the legitimate rights and interests of women and children in the province, and continue to meet the needs of women and children concerning legal services," added Zhang.

Li pointed out that the promotion of public legal services for women and children is an innovative measure of the provincial department of justice and the women's federation.

"Women's federations should further promote the universal public legal services for the majority of women and children within the province, and continuously enhance their sense of happiness, gain and security," suggested Li.

"This should become the specific practices for people who work in all level of Women's federations to better achieve the organization’s goals, as well as to enhance their own sense of responsibility and honor," added Li.

Li highlighted five pointson the work of women's federations within the province.

First, women's federations at all levels should strengthen the implementation of their work, guide the establishment of institutions at the grass-roots level, and provide organizational guarantees to ensure its continuous and orderly progress.

Second, women's federations at all levels should work closely with the judicial administrative public legal services to ensure the practical effects of their work.

Third, officials at women's federations should publicize and expand the influence of women and children's rights protection work through new media platforms such as WeChat, Weibo and QQ instant messaging groups.

Fourth, women's federations should strengthen the training of their staff and supervision of their work to ensure that the majority of women and children can receive high-quality legal services and assistance.

Fifth, officials at women's federations should constantly explore the working methods, create a good environment for gender equality, and protect the rights and interests of women and children in the whole society.
