Women's federations in south China's Guangdong province have recently been actively building various platforms for innovation and entrepreneurship to benefit outstanding talents, contribute toward reform efforts, and promote the governance of social organizations.
"Since last year, Guangdong Women's Federation (GWF) has solidly promoted the reform of women federations; promoted women's innovation and entrepreneurship and the organization of grassroots women's federations; and, organized and mobilized women in contributing to reform, development and social stability," said Feng Ling, president of GWF.
In order to guide and support women's innovation and entrepreneurship in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, GWF has set up four women's innovation and entrepreneurship bases in the cities of Zhuhai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Dongguan to utilize the location advantages and high-tech resources in the area, attracting more and more young entrepreneurial women to settle down in the province and start their businesses.
Shenzhen is a city inhabited by a large number of "Makers", including thousands of female innovative entrepreneurs. In 2016, Shenzhen Women's Federation promoted the establishment of Shenzhen Women Makers Association, the first such association in China. The platform aims to provide social resources and guidance on entrepreneurship for female Makers in the city.
Dong Ning, president of the association, said in an interview that, "It is the core value of the association that everyone can gain strength from the platform and pass it on to more people, so that more and more women would be able to have greater inner strength."
Reporters recently have also captured lively scenes by visiting all parts of the province attending activities run by women, including agricultural products exhibitions, ecological agriculture fairs, rural tours, which fully displayed women's unique role in "holding up half the sky".
Zeng Xianggui, assistant general manager of Ruifeng Property Services Co. is a native of central China's Hunan province. She was elected in 2013 as first deputy to the National People's Congress as a migrant worker in Dongguan, an important industrial city in the Pearl River Delta of Guangdong Province. In 2016, she became a part-time vice-president of the women's federation of Hengli Town and a member of the Standing Committee of Executive Committee of Dongguan Women's Federation.
Under Zeng's leadership and guidance, Ruikang Garden Community, where Zeng used to serve, has taken the lead in setting up a Women's Home center work group to participate in community governance, which is composed of Party members, property management staff and members of the owners' committee, winning the recognition and praise of local residents.
In order to promote the reform of women's federations, GWF and the Provincial Party Committee Organization Department cooperatively issued the Opinions on Further Promoting the Work of the Village (Community) Women's Congress to Renovate Women's Federations.
As a result, a total of 328,600 people have been newly-recruited as part-time vice-presidents and members of the executive committee in grassroots women's federations and some 30,563 women's organizations have been set up in a variety of ways in new fields among new groups.
In addition, GWF and the Provincial Department of Finance also issued the Opinions on Strengthening the Funding Guarantee for Grassroots Women's Federations in partnership to promote the institutionalization and incorporation of working funds of women's federations at four levels in cities, counties, towns and villages that guarantees their work.
At present, working funds of women's federations in the townships of the province have been entirely and effectively ensured.
In order to thoroughly study and carry out the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress, and to unite and lead women to follow the leadership of the Party, GWF launched an online campaign to collect literary and artistic works by the public, which have received an enthusiastic response from women and recruited a total of over 400 pieces of literary and artistic creation. They also broadcasted and displayed the works on their websites and social media accounts. Nearly 200,000 people have flooded the comment section, giving their high praise.
Reporters also learned that GWF has been promoting important ideas, such as Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress, and the spirit of the important speeches by General Secretary Xi Jinping, via various forms in places including enterprises, government departments, campuses, communities and military camps.
According to the data, as part of the efforts, over 7,000 lectures have been carried out, attracting nearly 500,000 people, and 6.4 million people have viewed them online.
