The fourth survey of women's social status in China will officially begin in 2020 according to a meeting for arranging the work held in Beijing on December 4.
The survey will try to fully ascertain the development and changes in Chinese women's social status and the requirements of women for a better life as the process of upholding and improving the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics and advancing the modernization of China's system and capacity for governance continues. The survey results will provide a scientific basis for making decisions to the CPC Central Committee and the Chinese Government, and assist reform of women's federations and innovation of women's work, according to Tan Lin, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation. Tan delivered a speech at the meeting, saying that the survey will also be a presentation of China's achievements in gender equality and women's development to the world.
The Survey of Women's Social Status in China, conducted every 10 years, is a national investigation co-organized by the ACWF and the National Bureau of Statistics. The previous three were carried out in 1990, 2000 and 2010.
The survey will cover such fields as political participation, education, economics, health, social security, marriage and family, lifestyle, laws, rights protection and gender concepts.
Women's federations at all levels were mobilized at the meeting to attach great importance to the survey and to play a role in its organization, implementation and publicity.
Members of the survey's leading group and representatives of the women's federations of 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the country, as well as the Women's Federation of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, attended the meeting.
