Prior to the Week Nutrition for All, Nestlé Healthy Kids Global Program (NHK) was launched in Hefei, on May 4th, witnessed together by Health Education Center of NHFPC, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and Chinese Nutrition Society. It is expected to bring scientifically authoritative courses on nutrition and health, as well as healthy diets and lifestyles to school teachers, students and their parents.
At the launch ceremony, students and teachers totaling about 500 at Jinputao Elementary School of Anhui, Hefei had a significant course on health education. NHK, by applying the notion of a nutrient family, ingeniously integrated the seven nutrients, including protein, fat, carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins, water and dietary fiber, into the interactive game, a creative method well received by the over 200 students present.
Yang Yuexin, chairperson of China Nutrition Association, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. She said,"The China Nutrition Association worked out a health education model for primary school teachers and students through the NHK, develop an assessment program to implement the requirements of health education and nutrition, and publish textbooks on nutrition knowledge suitable for urban and rural primary school students respectively. We hope the NHK will be able to improve the nutritional health knowledge level of teachers, students and parents, help them to form the correct nutritional attitude and healthy behavior, and further improve the nutrition and health status of children.
"Our goal is to enhance quality of life and contribute to a healthier future. The launch of NHK in Hefei and Anhui marks a new milestone. We're dedicated to providing a healthy diet to children and helping them develop better living habits. We really hope more children, schools and families can benefit," said Jonathan Dong, Head of Nestlé GCR Corporate Affairs.
The Nutrition Week for All will arrive after two weeks. Launched by the Chinese Nutrition Society, this event aims to carry forward nutrition and health concepts, improve people's nutrition and health conditions, carry out nutritional education and knowledge dissemination activities and make a great contribution to "Healthy China" and the improvement of national nutritional and scientific quality.
In response to the landing of NHK, the school headmaster Dou Haishan said, "Good education is a lifetime career. As long as the idea is brilliant, we'll try and carry it forward. I hope the program can serve as a different gateway to improve children's health conditions. We'll try our best to ensure their healthy growth."
After 7 years of development, this program has covered 17 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities including Anhui, Beijing, Henan, Hubei, Guangdong, Guizhou, Jiangxi, Jiangsu, Liaoning, Sichuan, Shandong, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shanxi, Yunnan, Xinjiang and Tibet, and benefited about 36,000 teachers and 4.5 million pupils.
The main purpose is to spread correct nutrition and health knowledge to students aged 6-12 and teachers in both urban and rural areas, as well as help students develop a healthy way of eating and living from childhood. As a public welfare activity, it's just the beginning, just like a young tree which is still growing and needs everyone's care to grow better.
