On the afternoon of June 22, the Sixth Poverty Alleviation Team (Hereinafter referred to as "the Team") of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) co-hosted a parent-child reading and sharing activity themed "Read Together and Grow Happily," under the ACWF's family reading activity "Road to Families: The Beauty of Books," with the Xihe County Women's Federation, the Xiyu Township Women's Federation and the Xiyu Junior Middle School.

Lu Yamin, the team leader and Deputy Director-General of the Liaison Department of the ACWF, and Ma Shoutu, Deputy County Chief of the Xihe County, delivered remarks in the activity.

Lu pointed out that in order to implement the spirit of the keynote speeches by general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Xi Jinping, which stress family bonds, family education and family virtue, the ACWF launched a national parent-child reading activity "Road to Families: The Beauty of Books" in 2016. The activity aimed to promote parent-child reading and growing up together, to further spread the concept of scientific family education through reading, and to promote a new style of family culture.

This is the first time that a book reading and sharing activity was held in Xihe County. The purpose of this activity is to encourage more families in the county to read books and form the new family culture.

Ma Shoutu pointed out that the work of family and children is an important part of the work of the women's federations of all levels. It is an important duty of the women's federations to promote good family values and the healthy growth of children. The Team co-hosting the parent-child reading activity with grassroots women's organizations and middle school is an important measure to promote the innovative development of the work of women's federations across the county. It helps promote the development of good reading habits and enhances family harmony and happiness.

Sixteen students and parents talked about the joy and shared the benefits and experiences of parent-child reading by vivid language and examples. In order to enable students and parents to better master the basic knowledge and skills of parent-child reading, create a good reading environment in the family, promote parent-child growth, and enhance parent-child intimacy, Zeng Guoqiang, a team member and Deputy Director of the Child Division of the Office of the National Working Committee on Children and Women under the State Council (NWCCW) explained in details the importance, principles, methods, and key message of parent-child reading. The teachers, students and parents participated in the activity expressed that they had gained knowledge and broadened their horizons through this activity and benefited greatly.

In the final session of the activity, representatives of the Team, teachers, students and parents jointly issued an initiative, calling on to make reading a habit of life, make reading lead a good family atmosphere, and make reading a fashion of the era. Students should constantly improve themselves in reading, serve people, the society and the motherland since childhood, have lofty aspirations, and work hard to realize the Chinese dream of the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Yu Fangzhou, the Principal of Xiyu Junior Middle School, summarized the activity and solemnly promised to guide students to read and make reading a good habit, work together with parents to cultivate new trends and contribute to the construction of Xiyu Town.

Seventy participants, including Liu Fanglian, President of the Xihe County Women's Federation, Yang Tian, Deputy Party Secretary of the Xiyu Town, Yao Yunling, Vice President of the Xiyu Township Women's Federation, Chen Rui, the First Member of the Party Secretary of Xiazhai Village, and teachers, students and parents of the Xiyu Junior Middle School took part in the activity.
