The opening ceremony of the seminar [Women of China/Fan Wenjun]
Tan Lin, vice-president and member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), gave a speech on August 28 in Beijing at the opening ceremony of the Seminar for Female Officials from Eastern European Countries.
The event was co-sponsored by the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the ACWF on the theme of "Uniting Women for the Belt and Road Initiative.”
During her speech, Tan spoke on the time-honored friendship fostered between the nation and the Eastern Europe countries.
She said that relations are getting stronger in the 21st century as political trust and cooperation in various sectors have been further enhanced and since high-level visits are more frequent.
In addition, Tan said that women play an important role in pushing forward national and regional development.
As Eastern Europe countries play a major role along the route of the Belt and Road initiative, she called on women in those countries to join hands with China to strengthen their personnel and cultural exchanges and practical cooperation.
Tan said that in this way, a road of peace, prosperity, openness, innovation and civilization can come into shape, which will contribute to the growth of nations, the region and the globe.
Nineteen female officials and representatives of women's organizations attended from Albania, Belarus, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine. They are set tostay in China from August 27-September 8.
During their visit, they will have a better understanding of the development of Chinese women's causes and achievements since China implemented the Reform and Opening Up policy in 1978.
Apart from Beijing, the team will visit east China's Hangzhou and Shanghai to learn more about women-related work and development projects in the regions.
