Shen Yueyue, President of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), met with Satsuki Katayama, the Japanese cabinet minister of State for Regional Revitalization and Women's Empowerment, in Beijing on January 10.
Shen said China and Japan are important neighbors and that with efforts made by both sides in the recent period, their bilateral relationship has been improving.
During the second half of 2018, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met three times and reached an important consensus on China-Japan relations in the new situation.
These meetings have provided a clear direction for the healthy development of bilateral ties, Shen remarked. She said women in China and Japan have been important and strong in contributing toward promoting the stable development of relations between the two countries.
The ACWF is willing to work together with its Japanese counterpart to promote the stable improvement of China-Japan relations in a positive direction and make bigger contributions to the all-round development of women in both countries, she said.
Shen talked about the huge progress China has made in economic and social development, poverty reduction and maternal and child health during the past 40 years since the introduction of reform and opening-up.
Furthermore, she emphasized that closely uniting around the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee with Comrade Xi as the core, and holding high the banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics, women have been carrying on reform and opening-up and working hard to realize the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation.
Katayama thanked Shen for the meeting and congratulated her on the success of the 12th National Women's Congress of China. She spoke highly of the achievements of China's reform and opening-up and women's causes and said that Japan will strengthen cooperation to promote women's development in the two countries.
Later, Huang Xiaowei, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, hosted a banquet for Katayama. She introduced the ACWF's work in the new era and both sides shared information about the promotion of gender equality and women's participation in social activities in their countries.
They also exchanged ideas about furthering bilateral exchange and promoting women's all-round development.
Katayama was visiting China at the invitation of the ACWF. Xia Jie, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, also attended the meetings.
