Cui Jiuxiu, a deputy to the National People's Congress (NPC) in her 20s, has been working in Shufu, a county in Kashgar, in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, for more than three years, transferring her small actions into positive energy for ethnic unity.
Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said officials should maintain good public virtues during a panel discussion with the NPC deputies from southwestern municipality of Chongqing. Cui repeatedly learned the speech and committed herself to serving the people.
After she served as the first secretary and Party secretary of the Sayybague Community and the leader of the “visiting, benefiting, uniting” team, Cui distributed an envelope to every family with her name, position and phone number on it so that she could collect their opinions and suggestions.
Cui gathered feedback from people covering 72 different problems concerning road repairs, gas access and heating. She accepted and responded immediately if the problem was solvable. If not, she would still reply and report it to the superior department.
A local resident once told Cui he intended to open a clothing store but couldn't due to insufficient funds. She helped him establish a clothing cooperative and recruited the unemployed.
The community held a simple but grand ceremony when the cooperative's employees received their first payoff. Since then, the residents has shown enthusiasm towards working, and they trust in the community more, which makes it easier for Cui to do her job.
Cui said that the important speech of General Secretary Xi has pointed out the direction for her future work and she will be committed to her job with enthusiasm and confidence.
