A group of 68 local children took part in a special light and fireworks spectacular to welcome the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Qingdao, east China's Shandong Province, on June 9.

Jiaozhou Yangko in Lights and Fireworks Art Show Lights was held at Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center in the city.

The show was divided into five sections and the all-girl group performed the Jiaozhou Yangko folk dance in the second part, accompanied by The Song of Yimeng Mountain.

Dressed in white, the children all showed the international audiences the charms of the dance through their elegant movements, said organizers.

Twenty-six of the dancers came from the No.2 Experimental Primary School in Chengyang District, whilst the others came from Jiaozhou District.

"It is the school's artistic heritage that made Beijing's director directly find our students to perform this intangible cultural heritage," said Wan Li, the principal of the school.

Some students had performed previously on stage for CCTV (China Central Television), up to 10 times, so they were full of experience.

The 26 students were selected  from among 200 outstanding performers in their school dance team after three rounds of testing.

Meanwhile, the primary school children from Jiaozhou were selected from around 1,000 students in the district.

"It is a great honor to perform Yangko, the intangible cultural heritage, for the world, so every child worked hard at it. I'm proud of them," Wang said.
