Li Yingying, a 17-year-old volleyball player, helped the Tianjin team win against Shanghai in the Chinese Women's Volleyball Super League on December 9.

Li made 45 points alone in the match, breaking the record 43 points kept by China's famous women's volleyball player Zhu Ting.

Stunning performance

There has recently been a whole host of new players getting into the Tianjin team. Li and other young players have just been selected from the youth team. Facing the Shanghai team which has extraordinary strength and an eight-game winning streak, Li had an outstanding performance as a volleyball rookie and impressed others.

After the game on December 9, Li was named "volleyball genius" and "Zhu Ting Junior", and as Kim Yeonkoung, a player from Republic of Korea in the Shanghai team, said, "Li was so outstanding, just like Zhu Ting."

Like Zhu as a spike, Li has a promising career ahead of her. She is only 17, the start of most volleyball players' careers. There are infinite possibilities in the future. Chen Youquan, the coach of the Tianjin team, said, "Li has great potential."

Inheriting spirit of women's volleyball

From the winning of five consecutive world championships of the 1980s to the success of the "golden generation" in early this century and the gold medal at Rio Olympics volleyball game, the Chinese women's volleyball team has developed an indomitable spirit of being united and cooperative, fighting tenaciously and never giving up.

Li admitted that when she was a child, she felt tired of training and she wanted to give up, but she overcame the difficulties.

In an interview, Li said Hui Ruoqi, captain of the Chinese Women's Volleyball Team, is her idol and her dream is to be an all-round player like her. She also said that she had a talk at the end of the last racing season with Hui, who gave her suggestions on her volleyball techniques and on how to keep a good mentality in the match.
