In the fall of 2008, more than 150 guests from China and 10 ASEAN member countries gathered in the “Green City” of Nanning, capital of southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, for the Second China-ASEAN High-Level Women's Forum. Under the theme, A Harmonious Environment for Women's Development, participants analyzed women's opportunities and challenges, shared experiences and explored strategies through which to promote women's advancement and gender equality.
To strengthen friendship and cooperation between Chinese and ASEAN women, The Nanning Declaration of the Second China-ASEAN High-Level Women's Forum, defining common goals and guiding principles for enhanced common understanding and mutual benefit, was adopted.
Participants in the forum visited the concurrent 5th Annual China-ASEAN Expo
in Nanning, and also gathered with members of the Guangxi Women's Federation at
the Guangxi Women's Mansion in the autonomous region's capital.. Forum attendees
later visited the Guangxi University for Nationalities and Guangxi Modern
Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Zone where they planted a
laurel symbolic of their evergreen friendship.
