The Third Series of Cross-Straits Exchanges Activities for Women

Sponsored by the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), the Third Series of Cross-Straits Exchanges Activities for Women was held in Beijing from September 19 to 24. More than 1300 renowned female celebrities, experts and scholars from mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions gathered in Beijing to participate in a series of exchanges. The theme of the symposium was "Sisters Hand in Hand, Promoting Mutual Development."

Gu Xiulian, Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and President of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), addressed the opening ceremony. She extended a warm welcome to all participants, and she said she hoped women across the straits will utilize opportunities and avail themselves to enhance cross-straits cooperation in trade, culture, technology and education. In addition, she said she hoped the women will contribute to a mutually beneficial economy and common prosperity in the mainland and Taiwan.

On the afternoon of September, forums dealing with the topics of Career and Gender Equality, Women's Readings and Images and Family Education and Children's Development were held at Beijing Hotel. Participants also visited Beijing, Shanghai, Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Fujian From September 21 to 24.
