The All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) held its 7th plenary session of the 11th Executive Committee from January 15 to 16 in Beijing.

The main aim of the session was to convey the latest guidelines of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee concerning ACWF's work, and to highlight CPC senior leader Wang Huning's recent remarks.

The remarks were made by Wang at a meeting attended by leaders of five mass organizations, namely the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, the Communist Youth League Central Committee, the ACWF, China Association for Science and Technology, and All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese.

Shen Yueyue, vice-chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and president of the ACWF, delivered a speech at the conference. She urged women's federations at all levels to closely study Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; uphold the leadership of the CPC; and lead women to make further contributions.

On behalf of ACWF's 11th Standing Committee, Song Xiuyan, vice-president and first member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, delivered a work report during the meeting.

The CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core has attached great importance to the work of mass organizations and women's development. President Xi has made a series of instructions and shown the way ahead for women's work.

Shen called on those present to take socialism with Chinese characteristics and the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress as a political priority, enhance their political awareness and play their leading role in political and ideological education.

Shen also urged participants to strengthen their consciousness regarding the need to maintain political integrity; think in big-picture terms; uphold the Party's core leadership and keep in alignment; and at the same time, fortify their confidence in the socialist path, theories, systems and culture with Chinese characteristics.

The attendees should also strengthen and improve the CPC leadership and unite women around the Party, Shen added.

Shen emphasized that women officials should encourage more fellow women to build a moderately prosperous society in all aspects. With the guidance of the new development theory, women's federations should lead women to start their own businesses, contribute to rural development and take part in poverty-alleviation campaigns.

When it comes to the construction of socialist core values, Shen said that women's federations should fully implement the basic State policy of gender equality, improve their work of service and rights protection, as well as deepen the reform of the organizations.

Touching on the inter-Party political construction, Shen asked women's federations to effectively change the former work style, push for strict Party management at the grassroots level, establish a long-term mechanism serving women and prepare for the 12th National Women's Congress.

Song reviewed the progress and achievements women's federations made in 2017. Fundamentally, Song said those accomplishments were the direct results of the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core and the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought.

Song also arranged a set of work priorities for women's federations in 2018, including education about the 19th CPC National Congress, carrying out the Women Making Achievements campaign, implementing the basic State policy of gender equality and deepening the reform of women's federations in key areas and crucial steps.

Women's federations at all levels should also prioritize political development, ensure the Party's unwavering core leadership in building socialism with Chinese characteristics and continue to improve their work capacity, Song urged.

Song hoped the participants could focus on preparations for the upcoming National Women's Congress, create a new situation for women's causes and women's federation work and make efforts to realize goals and tasks set at the 19th CPC National Congress.

The meeting approved two documents on the work report of ACWF's Executive Committee and the resolution of the coming 12th National Women's Congress.

Attendees included other vice presidents and members of the Secretariat of the ACWF.
