The Beginning of Winter is the first solar term in winter. Let's join Xinhua Correspondent Liu Jie to explore the season at an ancient observatory, believed to be the birthplace of the 24 solar terms, in Dengfeng City, central China's Henan Province.

The Beginning of Winter is a season to enjoy bumper harvests, take a rest, and prepare for the next spring ploughing. In north China, people have the tradition of eating dumplings, and in some places of south China, there is a custom of brewing yellow rice wine.

Tracing the origin of the 24 solar terms, at one of the oldest astronomical sites in the world, people can understand more deeply why the 24 solar terms still have a profound impact on agricultural production and people's life.
