Wang Danfeng has been interested in traditional Chinese culture since childhood. She came to know the traditional hand printing and dyeing by chance and was deeply attracted by its soft color and ever-changing characteristics, which made her decide to study this craft.

Through years of learning, she tried the abundant plants in Luanchuan area of Luoyang as raw materials in her creations. By soaking, tying, dyeing, washing, drying, the color of nature was moved onto the fabric, giving the dye a unique natural beauty and color change.

As the inheritor of cloth printing and dyeing techniques, an intangible cultural heritage project in Luanchuan County, Wang not only innovates in materials, but also explores the integration of intangible cultural heritage with education, tourism and other fields in practice.

Through opening of intangible cultural heritage class, Wang provides more children with the access to experience the charm of printing and dyeing techniques. Her hand-printed products are also put into the decoration and bedding of homestays, allowing tourists to immerse themselves in the art of this intangible cultural heritage. [Xinhua/Li An]
