Chinese Delegation Attends Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Beijing+30 Review

The Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on the Beijing+30 Review was held from November 19-21, 2024, in Bangkok, capital of Thailand. The conference reviewed the progress in implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in Asia and the Pacific during the past five years. It was emphasized more efforts should be made to promote women's economic empowerment and participation in decision-making, to eliminate violence against women, and to respond to new challenges.

More than 1,000 representatives, from member states and associate members of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), international organizations, and civil-society organizations, attended. Lin Yi, Vice-President of the All-China Women's Federation, led the Chinese delegation.

Members of the Chinese delegation spoke during the high-level and roundtable meetings. They cited vivid cases and authentic statistics as they outlined China's actions and progress in implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, and they showcased China's historical achievements in women's development, in the new era, under the guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping. They called on the international community to take Beijing+30 as an opportunity to pool strength, to create a synergy for promoting gender equality, empowering women's all-round development, and building a community with a shared future for mankind.

On the conference's sidelines, the delegation participated in a session, Gender Equality in a Changing Demographic World: Experiences from China since 1995, hosted by Chinese Women's Research Society and other organizations. Members of the delegation spoke during the session. The delegation also met, and had discussions with, Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, UN Under-Secretary-General and ESCAP Executive Secretary, and representatives of UN Women, United Nations Population Fund, Cambodia, Laos, Mongolia, Singapore, Thailand, Iran and Fiji.

Participants spoke highly of China's achievements in women's development, especially in starting businesses and securing jobs, empowering women through digital technology, safeguarding women's rights and interests, and women's participation in green development. They said they wanted to learn from China's experiences, to promote the development of women in the Asia-Pacific region.
