Huang Xiaowei, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), and Vice-Chairperson of the National Working Committee on Children and Women under the State Council, met Kanasugi Kenji, Japanese Ambassador to China, in Beijing on June 28.
China and Japan are each other's important neighbors, Huang noted. During their meeting in San Francisco, the United States, in November 2023, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida reaffirmed the positioning of comprehensively advancing the strategic and mutually beneficial relations between China and Japan, providing important political guidance for the development of the bilateral relations. Huang called on women of the two countries to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, deepen communications and mutual learning, make new contributions to the improvement and development of China-Japan relations, and jointly make efforts to build a community with a shared future for mankind.
Huang noted Xi had raised China's proposal on promoting gender equality and women's all-round development twice at meetings of the United Nations. In October 2023, Xi attended the opening of the 13th National Women's Congress of China and delivered an important speech during a talk with ACWF's new leadership. Xi's discourses on the work related to women and children as well as the work of women's federations, and Xi's discourses on the importance of family, family education and virtues have provided the guiding principles for Chinese women's development to achieve historic progress, Huang explained.
Huang outlined ACWF's major work; in particular, she mentioned the Spring Bud Project, which received the 2023 UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Prize for Girls' and Women's Education. She presented to Kanasugi copies of Xi's discourses on the work related to women and children as well as the work of women's federations, Xi's discourses on the importance of family, family education and virtues, and a book about the interactions between Xi, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, and the people during his domestic inspection tours.
Kanasugi spoke highly of the achievements in Chinese women's undertakings. He acclaimed ACWF's role in the advancement of mutual understanding among women of the two countries. He said the Embassy of Japan in China is willing to support women's communications and expand exchanges, and to build constructive and stable Japan-China relations that meet the needs of the new era.
Lin Yi, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, and Yokochi Akira, Chief Minister of the Embassy of Japan in China, attended.
