Huang Xiaowei, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), and Vice-Chairperson of the National Working Committee on Children and Women under the State Council, accompanied Fiame Naomi Mata'afa, Prime Minister of the Independent State of Samoa, during a visit to China Women's University (CWU), on November 27, 2024. Mata'afa visited the university's history museum, delivered a speech on the friendship between the two countries, and had cordial exchanges with students and teachers at the university.
Huang noted China and Samoa have a comprehensive strategic partnership of mutual respect and common development. Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Mata'afa on November 26, 2024, charting the course for the development of bilateral relations. Xi attaches great importance to women's cause, and he has made important discourses on the work related to women and children, as well as the work of women's federations, and on the importance of family, family education and virtues, leading to historical achievements in Chinese women's development in the new era, Huang said.
Huang also noted Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, cares about women's education and development, and that Peng cares about the establishment of the Exchange and Training Base of Global Women's Development Cooperation, at the university, by the Chinese Government. Huang said next year will mark the 50th anniversary of China-Samoa diplomatic ties, and the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, which was held in Beijing. China is ready to work with Samoa to follow the guidance of the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, deepen women's friendship between the two countries, enhance capacity-building of women in developing countries, and promote progress in the global women's cause.
Mata'afa said she admired China's remarkable achievements in social and economic development, gained under Xi's leadership. Mata'afa spoke highly of China's actions in promoting girls' and women's education. She said her visit to China was an opportunity to promote women's exchanges and cooperation between the countries, and to expand bilateral relations, for the benefit of the countries and their peoples.
Fei Mingxing, Chinese Ambassador to Samoa, Lin Yi, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, and Qian Bo, Special Envoy for Pacific Island Countries Affairs of the Chinese Government, also attended.
