More than 200 young singles in East China's Anhui Province, who had fought on the front line of the battle against novel coronavirus (COVID-19), participated in an online blind date on April 25. The participants included community workers, volunteers and staff members from the local health commissions and the public security authorities.

Some of the single medical workers, police officers and other frontline workers have expressed their wishes of having a boyfriend or girlfriend amid the battle against epidemic outbreak.

Guided by the Women's Federation of Anhui Province, the Women's Federation of Hefei City and a publishing house for a magazine on marriage and family affairs held the recent event, an innovative online blind date through livestreaming platform and video and voice chats, in a bid to help these young people make more friends and find a mate.

The event was part of the online dating activities launched by the province and city's women's federations in 2019. Most of the young singles have participated in the fight against the COVID-19, and some have supported the anti-virus fight in Central China's Hubei Province.

The organizers helped prepare photos and short videos in advance to help the participants get to know each other quickly during the activity. The photos and videos fully showed themselves and recalled their experience in the anti-virus fight.

During the interaction, Xiaomei, a nurse of Yaohai District, and a Xiaowu, a police officer, were surprised to find that their work units were close at hand. Both of them stuck to the positions and fought on the front line of the anti-virus fight amid the epidemic. Common topics and feelings brought their hearts closer, and the two began to think more about each other. "Looking forward to the moment when we meet offline," the pair said online with excitement.

The series of dating events launched in 2019 has become an important brand project of the province and city's women's federations. Over the past year, the organizers have organized tens of offline dating activities in districts and counties in Hefei.

"The event will follow the topics of clinching a complete victory in the fight against poverty and building a moderately prosperous society in all respects this year, keeping close to the needs of young people and serve more families at grassroots level," said an official of the province's women's federation.
