A charity campaign was launched to boost the consumption of products from poverty-stricken areas and promote women's employment and entrepreneurship in Guangzhou, capital city of South China's Guangdong Province, on June 28.
The campaign, jointly held by the Guangdong Women's Federation, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the Guangdong Provincial Poverty Alleviation Office, has rolled out a series of support measures, including encouraging families to purchase products from poverty-stricken areas, offering training sessions on vocational skills, and boosting women's
employment and entrepreneurship by providing job opportunities.
1,000-Plus Products on Display for Poverty Relief
A rural women's entrepreneurship and employment base was established in a commodity trading market for the collaboration on poverty alleviation between the eastern and western regions in Guangzhou. Products from the women's entrepreneurship bases, female farmers, and
impoverished families in western regions, especially in Xihe, a paired-up poverty-stricken county in Gansu Province assisted by the All-China Women's Federation, are displayed in the base.
It also provides free online and offline training on the entrepreneurship and employment through e-commerce and livestreaming platforms, and it offers financial support for women who are willing to start their own businesses.
Within two years, rent-free concessions will be given to companies recommended by the women's federations to enter the trading market. Special discounts will be also given to products and shops recommended by the women's federations on a designated online trading platform. More than 1,000 products recommended by the women's federations will be on display on the designated online platforms.
12,000 Jobs to Promote Employment and Entrepreneurship
The Guangdong Association of Women Entrepreneurs (GAWE) has mobilized its member enterprises and the women entrepreneur associations of the cities in the province to offer work opportunities to help women seek employment close to their homes, giving priority to migrant workers and college graduates from poverty-stricken areas. For now about 2,000 positions for women have been provided.
"We hope to give full play to the resources and advantages of women entrepreneurs to contribute to stabilizing employment and supporting women to get jobs and start their businesses," said Zhai Meiqing, President of the GAWE.
A livestreaming platform will also launch a plan of assisting women's employment and entrepreneurship, which includes providing training sessions on livestreaming sales skills and flexible employment for 10,000 women in the province.
A 20-million-yuan (US $2.83 million) bonus for encouraging livestreaming sales and entrepreneurship is set up to give rewards to women who start their businesses on its platform and recommended by the women's federations.
4-Million-Yuan Consumption Coupons for Poverty Alleviation
A total of four-million-yuan (US $565,600) consumption coupons will be issued to consumers who buy products from the campaign's livestreaming platform.
The campaign will donate one percent of the sales volume to the Guangdong Women and Children's Foundation to set up a charity fund to help women and children in poverty-stricken areas.
"The theme of the campaign is Bringing Love Home. Buying agricultural products from poverty-stricken areas means bringing love for farmers home," said Feng Ling, President of the Guangdong Women's Federation.
According to Feng, impoverished women can master skills and get jobs through the campaign,
showing the Party and government's care to women. The donation of one percent of the sales volume help set up the Bringing Love Home Fund, which spreads the love from all sectors of the society to every family.
