A livestreaming show to help women in impoverished areas promote agricultural products and handicrafts was held on October 17, China's National Poverty Relief Day.
The event was sponsored by the Publicity Department of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and Women of China Magazine, a national magazine affiliated to the ACWF.
Huang Wei, better known as Viya, one of China's top-selling livestreaming hosts, anchored the activity together with special guests such as Deng Yaping, China's four-time Olympic table tennis champion.
Twenty-four products were presented during the show and 5.7 million products had been sold, with transactions valued at 12.77 million yuan (US $1.91 million) by the end of the show.
Liu Fanglian, President of the Women's Federation of Xihe County, Longnan City, Northwest China's Gansu Province, felt excited when she participated in the livestreaming show for the first time.
Liu thanked the ACWF for giving an opportunity to promote local specialties through the activity. Thanks to the show, about 37,000 packages of fine dried noodles produced in the county were sold in a short time.
"This livestreaming show filled me with confidence. I didn't expect so many people to support us, which encouraged me to use the Internet to spread the handicrafts of intangible cultural heritage," said Peng Xiaoxiao, gold medal winner of the 2019 China Women's Craft Entrepreneurship and Innovation Contest.
Viya said that the National Award for Efforts in Poverty Alleviation felt to her like the affirmation and encouragement from the country and the public, and she will continue to make efforts in poverty relief in the future.
It was released that Viya's livestreaming shows focusing on poverty relief and rural product promotion had achieved sales to the tune of more than 560 million yuan (US $83.78 million) after the activity on October 17.
