Women Workers and Volunteers Contribute to Citywide Nucleic Acid Test in Qingdao

 October 17, 2020

The city of Qingdao in East China's Shandong Province launched a citywide nucleic acid testing campaign for novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on October 11. Women medical workers, volunteers and staff members of the women's federations at all levels in the city joined the campaign and contributed to the epidemic prevention and control.

Liu Xin, a medical worker, worked for four hours on October 12 at a test point in a community in
Zhonghan Sub-district, Laoshan District. She tested more than 800 people without any rest in the morning.

During her short break when having lunch, Liu said that medical workers have stuck to their positions for the test, and women medical workers account for more than 70 percent. "Our hard work is for the safety of most people." Liu added.

Ye Yingxia, a volunteer, organized other women volunteers to go from door to door to notify residents to take the test. In less than 30 minutes, nearly 100 people had lined up at the test point in the community, taking the test in an orderly manner.

A senior volunteer surnamed Ji in a community in Chengyang Sub-district, Chengyang District, gathered together more than 10 women volunteers via her WeChat group to help guide residents to queue for tests. For four to five hours, they have worked on the test site without a break.

Workers at the test point in Shibeiqu Community gave up their lunch break to ensure efficient testing procedures. Nine passages have been opened at the test point for local residents.

Among them, three green passages have been opened for special groups such as the elderly, children and pregnant women.

Testers and women volunteers also visited the elderly people with limited mobility at their homes to conduct nucleic acid testing.
