Xinjiang (in Northwest China) Women's Federation recently named 10 law firms as "Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region's legal-service stations for protecting women and children's rights and interests." The federation signed agreements with the law firms, and the agreements stipulate the firms should provide professional services, such as legal advice and family dispute mediation, to women and children.
The legal- service stations were selected based on Xinjiang Women's Federation's research and the recommendations of the autonomous region's department of justice. The federation hopes the stations will help expand rights -protection channels, help promote social harmony, and serve as an innovative approach for social governance.
The stations will help the federation deal with complaints made by women and/or children — through letters, visits and calls — and they will help organize legal publicity activities. The stations will also offer legal aid to women and children.
