Regulation Protects Women, Children's Rights in Suzhou

 November 5, 2021

Since the Regulation on the Protection of Women's Rights and Interests of Suzhou (a city in East China's Jiangsu Province) took effect, in October 2020, Suzhou Women's Federation has strengthened implementation of measures to protect women and children's lawful rights and interests. The regulation addresses various situations, including women's political participation, labor security, rights in culture and education and rights in public services.

Suzhou Women's Federation, and various departments of Suzhou, have jointly introduced nine supportive policies to promote implementation of the regulation. The women's federation also implemented a public-breastfeeding-room project, which earned the federation an award for "model cases of social governance" in Suzhou. Gender equality education is being promoted in schools, and awareness of gender and self-protection is being promoted among students, teachers and parents.

During the past year, Suzhou Women's Rights-Protection Service Center has provided services to 1,092 women, and has issued 1,567 reprimands to perpetrators of domestic violence.

To enhance the comprehensive protection of underage girls, eight "one -stop" case-handling offices have been established in procuratorates, police stations and hospitals.
