Many residents of Hongxing (a village in Chongren, a county in Fuzhou, a city in East China's Jiangxi Province) on October 25 gathered in Hongxing to participate in an activity to help rural residents better understand laws and regulations, especially those pertaining to the protection of women and children's legal rights and interests. The activity was the opening event of the campaign of sharing legal information with rural residents. Jiangxi Women's Federation and Jiangxi Radio and Television Station implemented the campaign. The campaign was intended to help the residents improve their understanding of the laws and regulations, which, in turn, would promote social harmony and stability.

The federation and the station dispatched a van, with experts, in family and marriage issues, and lawyers, judges and scholars (who study laws and legal regulations), to Hongxing, to provide various public-welfare services (to rural residents), including helping residents resolve disputes among their relatives and neighbors, and providing legal and psychological counseling to residents, so they could better protect their rights and interests.

Workers with the federation and the station performed legal-education-themed situation comedies. The workers received cheers and thunderous applause from the residents. Organizers also held a competition among Hongxing's residents to test their knowledge on laws and legal regulations. All of the above-mentioned activities were well received.

The federation in recent years has conducted various activities to provide legal services to and share information with women, so the women can better protect their rights and interests.

The federation during the past few years has implemented the project of cultivating rural "legal mediators." So far, the presidents of all the village-level women's federations (in Jiangxi) have become key members of the "legal mediators," who have been leading 900,000 rural women "mediators" in helping resolve rural residents' family disputes, and helping the residents improve their understanding of the laws and regulations.
