Six years ago, Lin Xiaolian came to this island as a volunteer teacher after graduating from Lingnan Normal University in Guangdong. And then she chose to stay here to be a teacher. The remote and poverty-stricken island village of Beili hardly sees outsiders. There are no restaurants, hotels nor cars on the island covering only 7 square kilometers. Beili Primary School has over 300 students, but is staffed by only 5 teachers. Lin is responsible for teaching English for multiple grades and has at least 24 classes a week due to the lack of teachers. Under Lin's instructions, her students won many awards in town-level and county-level knowledge competitions in the past six years. And ten of her students were admitted to a key middle school in the town in 2019.
