Two Sessions | Boosting High-Quality Development of Rural E-Commerce

 March 14, 2024

Yue Qiaoyun,  an deputy to the National People's Congress (NPC)  from Beijing's Pinggu District, shared her story of leading villagers in planting peaches, in a scientific way, and selling peaches through rural e-commerce platforms, during an interview ahead of the second plenary meeting of the second session of the 14th NPC on March 8.

Pinggu, surrounded by mountains on three sides, has naturally fertile ground for peach trees. Thanks to policy and technology support, the district has become well-known as the "hometown of peaches."

Yue, president of Beijing Lünong Xingyun Fruit Production and Marketing Professional Cooperative, proposed greater efforts be made to enhance the highquality development of rural e-commerce, to advance rural revitalization.

Yue pointed out, in the context of comprehensively promoting rural revitalization, rural e-commerce has become an important way to promote agricultural and rural modernization, and, in turn, to increase farmers' incomes. In recent years, the development of rural e-commerce has entered a high-quality stage, and live streaming and other forms of e-commerce have been booming, in turn opening a broader market for agricultural products.

"The future of rural revitalization lies in science and technology," Yue stressed. The cooperative has worked with the Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences to conduct several scientific- and technological-innovation projects.

"I will continue to take root in the countryside, work with the villagers to plant peaches in a scientific way, and make greater contributions to agricultural modernization and rural revitalization." Yue said.
