Yuan Ting (L) and a colleague collect research data at a fish hatchery of the Dateng Gorge water conservancy in Guiping, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, April 20, 2021. An expert in ecosystem-based fishery and rare fish species breeding, Dr. Yuan Ting came to the Dateng Gorge water conservancy in 2020 with a team of researchers. The focus of their research is the rescue, protection and breeding of rare fish species native to the Pearl River basin. On May 28, Yuan's team released 100,000 fish fry they have bred in a year into the upper reaches of the Dateng Gorge water conservancy. According to Yuan, what they are doing can help increase the fish population in the Pearl River basin and protect its aquatic biodiversity, thus improving the local water environment.
