Yang Enlan, a deputy to the 14th National People's Congress (NPC), China's national legislature, is also head of the plant-protection station of Shuicheng District Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, in Liupanshui, a city in southwest China's Guizhou Province. Her proposal during this year's annual NPC session focuses on both ensuring food security and advancing rural revitalization.

For the past eight years, Yang has worked on the front line of projects aimed at monitoring and controlling pests and diseases of crops. She has been named a National Excellent Agricultural Technological Talent, and she has received the May 1st Labor Medal of Guizhou.

"I love agriculture, the countryside and farmers. I will use my knowledge to serve my hometown, as a responsible 'plant protector.' I would like to be a close friend of farmers, and I will safeguard the country's food security with concrete actions," Yang says.
