BEIJING, January 11 (Xinhua) —The China Diving Association (CDA) was established here in Beijing on Saturday and China's first Olympic diving champion Zhou Jihong was elected as chairperson.
China's diving team has been called the Dream Team as Chinese divers have won a total of 40 gold medals from the previous nine Olympic Games.
Zhou, women's 10m platform Olympic champion in 1984 and long-time team manager of the Chinese national team, was elected the chairwomen.
"We will work on further development of diving and try to keep on our fighting momentum to reach high standards," said Zhou, who is also the chairperson of China Swimming Association.
Hu Jia, men's 10m platform winner at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, was voted as one of the four vice presidents of the CDA.
"We will try to carry on our diving spirit with dedication, self-motivation and team work. At the same time, we will promote the development of the sport based on its own characters and make our sport more popular in China," said Hu, who ran three companies in the past 10 years.
