Macao Women Attend Workshop, Exchange Activities in Beijing

 December 10, 2019

Twenty-four members attending a workshop for Macao women who are engaged in women's work participated in exchange activities in Beijing on December 2.

The workshop is co-sponsored by the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR and the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF).

Since its inception in 2007, the workshop has been aimed at enhancing women's work exchanges and cooperation between Macao and the Chinese mainland through lectures and study visits. So far, more than 300 women have participated in the workshop.

Members of the workshop visited the China National Museum of Women and Children. The museum, affiliated to the ACWF, is China's first national themed museum focusing on women and children, and has nearly 30,000 items on display in various collections.

Law Hoi Man, head of the workshop and Deputy Director of the Women's General Association of Macao, said that the visit has helped her learn more about the greatness of Chinese women. She added that women's development conditions have been continuously improved in Macao in the past 20 years since its return to the motherland.

She expects the Women's General Association of Macao and women's federations in the Chinese mainland to further increase communication and exchanges.

Workshop members also visited the Haidian Women and Children's Activity Center, where they had a look at a migrant women's home, a folk handicraft studio, a fashion design studio, and a classroom for senior citizens.

"I never expected that there would be such a place in the community to provide training, activities and entertainment for women and children," said Chen Siu Yuk from the Youth Committee of the Macao Manufacturers Association.

"Compared with many communities in Macao, the services in the Haidian Women and Children's Activity Center are more professional and diverse," she added.

Lo Kit Yee, member of the workshop and Deputy Director of the Macao Professional Women's Association believes that women will play their part in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

"The development of the Greater Bay Area needs professional personnel in finance, taxation, land and law, which will promote women professionals innovative development and provide more women with the opportunity to play their role in social affairs and make more contributions." Lo said.
