Ho Chao Ieng: Her Impressions of Macao

 December 15, 2019

Ho Chao Ieng, a student at School of Journalism and Communication, Peking University [For Women of China]

I was born and raised in Jiangmen, in South China's Guangdong Province. I moved to Macao, with my family, three years ago. I feel that Macao attaches great importance to students' all-round development.

Macao has a comprehensive social security system. The SAR government not only ensures the good welfare of its residents, it also has a program to encourage people to pursue further studies. Each person can receive a subsidy of 6,000 MOP (US $744) to cultivate their interests and improve their skills.

Before Macao's return to China, Macao was known primarily for its gaming industry. During the past 20 years, under the leadership of the SAR government, the tourism, science and technology, and the cultural and creative industries have developed fast. Macao is gaining more development opportunities through implementation of the BRI and through development of the GBA.

I came to Beijing, to study at Peking University, last year. I was glad that I could celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China in the capital of our motherland. On October 1, I watched the live broadcast of the National Day celebrations at the university. When we saw our fellow students marching in formation through Tian'anmen Square, we all cheered with passion. I was so excited at that time. I feel China is growing stronger, and I am determined to do my part for the country in the future.
