Message of Int'l Women's Day from the All-China Women's Federation

Dear sisters, friends,

We hope this letter finds you well. On the occasion of March 8th International Women's Day, the All-China Women's Federation extends warm greetings and best wishes for a happy International Women's Day to all friends.

The year 2020 witnessed the tenacious struggle of mankind against the COVID-19 epidemic, as well as the perseverance and mutual assistance of women all over the world. In the past year, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core has all along put the people and their lives above everything else and united Chinese people with solidarity and resilience. Major achievements were made in the overall planning of epidemic prevention and control and in economic and social development. Chinese women joined hands with women of all countries and made concerted efforts in the life-and-death battle against the epidemic. Women forged an iron shield to safeguard the community of common health for mankind, and demonstrated the important role of "holding up half of the sky" in combating the COVID-19.

The year 2020 turned over a new leaf of the global cause of gender equality. Leaders of our countries gathered at the High-Level Meeting on the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women to advance the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. President Xi Jinping delivered an important speech in which he further claimed the Chinese proposition for global women's advancement amid unprecedented changes over the century.

In China, the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core highlights and prioritizes women's poverty reduction and development. Series of measures have been taken to push forward the reduction and elimination of poverty among women. Almost 100 million rural residents living below the current poverty line have shaken off poverty, among whom half are women, which creates a miracle of poverty reduction in human history. Inspired by the call of "leaving no one behind in the process of building a well-off society", Chinese women, with ambition, diligence and relentless efforts, follow their dreams and create a better life of common prosperity.

The year 2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC. Over the 100 years of journey surging forward with great momentum, with the care of the CPC Central Committee, Chinese women's status has undergone enormous changes as the Chinese people rises and grows richer and stronger. China has put in place a legal system comprising over 100 laws and regulations for safeguarding women's rights and interests. Women account for over 50% of graduate and postgraduate students. 55% of China's Internet start-up businesses are set up by women. The maternal mortality rate has fallen to 17.8 per 100,000. Free cervical cancer and breast cancer screening program covers women of all poverty-stricken counties. Women's average life expectancy reaches 79.43 years. These facts demonstrate that the historical strides in Chinese women's status can only be achieved with the strong leadership of the CPC.

One hundred years after the founding of the CPC, its original aspiration grows even firmer. At the historic conjunction of the "Two Centenary Goals", the new journey of comprehensively building a modern socialist country is about to start. The 14th Five-Year Plan for national economic and social development was laid out at the fifth plenary session of the 19th Central Committee of the CPC, and reiterated the principle of "adhering to the fundamental national policy of equality between men and women, and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of women and minors". Wholeheartedly supporting the leadership of the CPC, Chinese women will continue to actively participate in national construction and economic and social development and contribute to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Winter cannot stop the arrival of spring and darkness can never shroud the light of dawn. As we cannot meet face-to-face because of the epidemic, we send you our cordial wishes through this letter and a video clip themed "No One Must Be Left Behind". May they bring our warm regards and best wishes for a happy International Women's Day and for good health and happiness. We stand ready to stay united with women from all countries in joint unremitting endeavor to early prevail over the COVID-19 epidemic, to promote women's overall advancement, and to build a community with a shared future for mankind!
