China-Arab States Women's Forum Held in UAE

Cui Yu, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation, led a delegation that attended the China-Arab States Women's Forum, which opened in Abu Dhabi, capital of United Arab Emirates, on April 28, 2015. The forum, with the theme "Hand in Hand for Joint Development," was attended by 200 participants, including women entrepreneurs, women crafts makers and leaders of women's organizations from China and several Arab countries.

Cui delivered a speech during the opening ceremony. She said the forum, as a milestone in the history of friendly communications between Chinese and Arab women, was playing a role in advancing cooperation and innovation in women's development.

She said Chinese women will work with women from Arab countries to inherit the spirit of "harmonious cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit," philosophies that have been shared by countries along the Silk Road for centuries.

Cui also suggested that more effective measures must be taken to strengthen high-level communications among Chinese women and women from Arab countries, and that platforms must be built so women's organizations' leaders and women from all walks of life can share their work experiences. Cui also called for enhanced cooperation on issues related to gender equality.

During the forum, participants discussed issues related to "women and sustainable development in China and Arab countries," "opportunities and challenges for women's leadership," "support measures so women entrepreneurs can start and run their businesses" and "women's work experiences in entrepreneurship."
